Privacy Policy

Who we are

Optimistic Media LLC ("we") operates the Dear Optimist mobile app, a daily affirmation and journaling app.

What we collect

• Account — your email (for sign-in) and an optional display name. You can sign in with an email link, an email and password, Google, or Apple. If you choose Google or Apple, that provider confirms your identity and passes us your email address (and, for Apple, the name you choose to share) so we can create your account — we never see or receive your Google or Apple password. Their handling of the sign-in itself is governed by their own privacy policies.
• Your content — journal entries, voice memos, daily “weather” ratings, and any custom affirmations you create.
• Subscription status — whether you have an active premium subscription (via RevenueCat and the app stores). We never receive your full payment-card details.
• How you use the app — which screens you open, which buttons you tap, and a few milestones such as finishing setup or saving your first entry, tied to your account (your email and display name), plus your device type and approximate location from your IP address. This never includes what you write or record: your journal entries, voice memos and custom affirmations are never sent, and nothing you type is recorded. We use HeyCatch to collect and view this.
• Device & ads — for free users we show ads via Google AdMob, which may process device identifiers. On iOS we ask for App Tracking Transparency permission first.

How we use it

To provide the app, sync your content across devices, deliver daily notifications you enable, manage subscriptions, show ads to free users, and see where the app is confusing or broken so we can fix it. Usage analytics are never used for advertising. We do not sell your personal information. California residents can opt out of any sharing for cross-context advertising via the in-app “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” toggle.

Storage & security

Your content is stored with Supabase (Postgres + object storage). Voice memos live in a private bucket scoped to your account. Access is protected by row-level security, and data is encrypted in transit. Usage analytics are held by HeyCatch, which receives only the usage described above; deleting your account stops it at once, and on request we will have your past usage data erased there too.

Data retention

We retain your account and content for as long as your account remains active. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, content, and any associated files as part of that request. You can also request deletion of your data at any time by emailing privacy@dearoptimist.app.

Children's privacy

Dear Optimist is intended for users 13+. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact privacy@dearoptimist.app and we will delete it.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR (EU/UK) and the CCPA/CPRA (California) to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing. We do not sell your personal information. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@dearoptimist.app.

Your choices

You can edit or delete entries in-app, opt out of ad personalization, and delete your account entirely at any time — see Delete account.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Effective" date above and, where appropriate, with an in-app notice.
